The Singularity of Man

Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.

God created man. The word for man here is ‘âdâm. Man was created in the likeness of God which is the word ‘ĕlôhı̂ym. Male and Female were created and they were called Man which is the word ‘âdâm again. You have two distinctly different creatures being called man. Two entities referred to as one. Now I am believe in the Trinity and believe Jesus is God, so my view is going to be slanted towards that. I know not everyone will agree and that is ok. I just thought it was an interesting thing to note.

    I defintely disagree…but than again I am a mono-theist – you’d expect as much.

Man and woman are not ‘one’ though. They have a definite unity to them but they are not the same. Female came from the Adam according to chapter 2 of the Genesis story…revealing the possible heart of the idea in Genesis 5:1. Why mention both – according to Genesis 2 Adam is created first – Eve from him makes 2.

I think in some way they are ‘one’ – but no one in their balanced mind would say a woman and man are ‘the same person’. Sure we can come together and be a ‘couple’ – but we admit there is 2 unique personalities sharing in that commanality.

And this line up with the reality of the Adam texts. Eve is the one that listens to the serpent and is swayed by the argument…Adam prior to that was not. Here we see 2 seperate people with seperate outcomes to their actions, wants, and needs.

“So the difference is God is in perfect agreement with Himself? I can agree with that.” (Xander)

It’s kind of like God talking to Himself I guess? We do it so who is to say God doesn’t?
