Salvation

salvation

–noun

1. the act of saving or protecting from harm, risk, loss, destruction, etc.

2. the state of being saved or protected from harm, risk, etc.

3. a source, cause, or means of being saved or protected from harm, risk, etc.

4. Theology . deliverance from the power and penalty of sin; redemption.

Salvation is this thing that gets held over the heads of people as a reward and is often a motivator for people’s actions, but I do not think that most people understand what it is and what it really entails. The concept of salvation is found in almost every religion, so the commonality of it seems to utter that it is an eternal truth.

I want to do several posts of what salvation is. What it means to different religions and what it means to Christianity. The pursuit for the understanding of what salvation is has been enlightening to me and I hope that it helps others in there pursuit as well.
