God said to Balance your Checkbook U.S.

I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.

These comments were made by Michele Bachmann recently. Her spokeswoman later commented that she was saying these things in jest, but why make the statements then?

Bachmann is a dominionist or someone who wants the government under the control of Christians and operating according to Christian teachings. While in theory, this is a good idea to Christians, it is not what Jesus taught.

Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? It is your own nation and high priests who have handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom belonged to this world, my servants would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But for now my kingdom is not from here.” (John 18:35-36)

No where were Christians told to go and make Christian nations. Christians can’t even agree on one understanding of the faith, which is why we have so many denominations, so how many countries would we end up forming trying to get the right Christian nation. If the kingdom is not a worldly kingdom, meaning nation, why would God be punishing people because of government financial mismanagement? How many hurricanes and earthquakes were sent to the Ancient Rome or against the Nazis? Why would this come to the US because of overspending when it does not happen to other countries? Because we think we are a Christian nation? Laughable.

How about God sent natural disasters to tell the people to repent? Maybe repent for sinful lifestyles and apathy maybe? Repent for ignoring the poor and homeless maybe? Repent for putting personal welfare and comfort above others maybe?

If Christians want to claim that a natural disaster was sent to correct an action or attitude, how about saying it was sent to tell people to do what He said as opposed to some man made desire for government.
