Christian Terminology

Open theism, also called free will theism and openness theology, is the belief that God does not exercise meticulous control of the universe but leaves it “open” for humans to make significant choices (free will) that impact their relationships with God and others.

Sola Fide – Faith Alone – man is justified or made right before God through faith alone. Good works are a sign of justification, but can not yield or contribute to justification

Sola Scriptura – Scripture Alone – the belief that the Bible is the only inspired and authoritative Word of God and is available to all.

Solus Christus – Christ Alone – Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. No one else can bring salvation to anyone.

Sola Gratia – Grace Alone – Salvation comes by grace alone. No good work or merit can be applied in an attempt to earn salvation.

Soli Del Gloria – Glory to God Alone – All glory is due to God as He not only provided the atonement on the Cross but also provided the faith needed for salvation.

Total depravity, also called total inability or total corruption, is a biblical doctrine closely linked with the doctrine of original sin as formalized by Augustine and advocated in many Protestant confessions of faith and catechisms, especially in Calvinism. The doctrine understands the Bible to teach that, as a consequence of the Fall of man, every person born into the world is morally corrupt, enslaved to sin and is, apart from the grace of God, utterly unable to choose to follow God or choose to turn to Christ in faith for salvation.
